Phil and I partnered up last summer to start Volant Trading LLC. Despite having known and worked with Phil for many of the prior 13 years, I couldn't have imagined what a great experience working with him in this capacity could have been.

From a purely technical perspective, Phil was one of a very small number of developers that could tackle this project. His combination of raw talent and specific industry experience was very rare. In addition, his reputation with everyone he'd ever worked with was absolutely impecable. These things alone gave me cause to feel quite fortunate to have been able talk him into joining up with me.

However, Phil contributed so much more. First of all, Phil worked harder than anyone in the office. He was usually the first in, and worked the longest hours - despite having the greatest responsibilities at home. Phil raised the bar very high, and challenged us all to perform. Secondly, Phil's passion for what we were doing was contagious, and fed everyone in the office. We were having fun.

In short, Phil was a role model for all of us in so many ways. I particularly admired his integrity, intelligence, and work ethic, and appreciated his warmth and sense of humor. He was our friend, and it goes without saying, he will be missed.
